Hi Doug,

Thanks for these howtos.  I have used some of them in the past, but didn't
realize how many others you had on your site.

For sending email, if you have  your own domain, I recommend mailgun.com.
They have a free plan and a flex plan. I have used this for many years and
if you're only using it to send notifications to a select few, and you're
under 1,000 messages a month, you'll never have to pay.

Basically, you do have to verify your domain with them, and then you can
create as many SMTP accounts as you need. You could even make one per
device. I mainly like this because of the straightforward smtps client
setup.

When you sign up, uncheck the box to provide payment information. That
limits you to five recipients, but alleviates any concerns about accidental
charges. Once you're signed up and are using the service, you can select
their free forever (limited to 5 recipients) or their flex plan (unlimited
recipients, but would charge if you somehow go over the 1000 message/month
limit).  I've  never come close to that limit except when I was running a
discourse based mailing list.
