[arm-allstar] March 26 update

I guess I updated during the time of the error because I can't log in via
putty. I get the log in screen and after typing root and my password putty
starts to do something then closes. I've tried rebooting without success,
still does the same thing. I took the Pi to my desk and hooked up a monitor
and keyboard and the same thing happens. Asked for user name and password
after entering them it starts to do something then goes back to the login
screen. I can access it via winSCP. Any idea how to fix the problem short of
reinstalling the software?
