[arm-allstar] HAMVOIP Statement

Because some of you subscribe to the app-rpt mailing list as well as this
one and I never respond on that list I am compelled to respond to a recent
message on that list by a certain individual regarding the hamvoip software.

This is not the first time this has happened and probably will not be the
last. In his messages he calls us (hamvoip) and specifically Dave, KB4FXC
criminals which anyone with a sound mind would realize is totally untrue.
He also accuses us of having some kind of nefarious code that he supposes
is somehow doing bad things and encourages people to use the ASL code. Let
me present some facts here. Facts are important but somehow in today's
society are not valued.

Dave, KB4FXC is in my opinion an outstanding programmer and his knowledge
of Allstar and how to improve it is years ahead of anyone out there.
Together we created Hamvoip and we were the first to put Allstar on a small
board computer five years ago starting with the BeagleBone Black and a year
later the Raspberry Pi. At that point we had the full support of Jim Dixon
in doing so. Today hamvoip is fully 70%+ of the Allstar market and growing
daily. We have made revolutionary changes to the code and will continue to
do so with many planned and significant updates coming soon.

ASL which is just ACID as Jim left it several years ago with some wrappers
around it has none of the enhancements, bug fixes, etc. that the hamvoip
code has. All this open source BS that some of the Allstar group professes
has not produced one significant update in that code, On the other hand
hamvoip has been very responsive to both users needs and any bugs that are
found in the code with timely updates to address those issues. With ASL
what you have is what you get and even a seasoned 'C' programmer would have
problems with the "spaghetti" and in many cases poorly written apt_rpt
code. Our goal is to fix that as we have been and will continue to do in
future releases.

The unnamed individual (and others) who thought they represented Allstar
moved in quickly with the void caused by the death of Jim Dixon and in our
opinion illegally took over domains and servers without the knowledge of
how to run them causing havoc over the last several years. Fortunately we
picked up the slack and created our own servers which has kept Allstar
running at times when theirs failed. We plan to continue to support the
Allstar community and in particular our loyal hamvoip users.

I am NOT looking for comments on this and in fact we do moderate our list
so I don't want and won't let this get into a big discussion which most
don't want to hear. I am sure you all have your opinions. My purpose here
was to present some facts to those who continually see this BS from some in
the Allstar group from various sources outside of this list and wonder just
what is going on. My opinion is that they are jealous. We do things well
and we do things right. We are respectful to our users and appreciate they
are there. You are the Allstar community not some self appointed board that
has little real impact and actually causes more problems then help.

Unfortunately app_rpt does not moderate their list and they let this
garbage go out which only hurts the reputation of Allstar in general.

I can honestly say that Allstar would not be anywhere near where it is
today without the efforts of the hamvoip community. Thank you for your
continued support.
