Jim,

 It sounds like you are not going to have enough drive with the FOB you are
using. If it is a DMK-URI here is an additional amplifier you can jumper in.

Connect pins  24-14  and pins 22-24 and take the output to the TX from pin
12

This connects 5V to the additional op-amp and puts it in circuit. This
should give you enough additional gain. If not you can disconnect the 24-14
connection and put up to 12V on pin 24.

There are other FOBS like the RA35 that would have the additional output
required.
