You're circumventing the "named" (bind9) daemon already running on your Pi. Corrupting resolv.conf works but it is a kludge. 

The correct approach is to leave 127.0.0.1 in resolv.conf and add DNS forwarders to the named.conf file.

    directory "/var/named";
    forwarders {
                8.8.8.8; 
8.8.4.4;
                };
    pid-file "/run/named/named.pid";

Though everything worked fine on Comcast and Century link I have been 
fighting problems with satellite service is not working correctly. It 
must be something to do with their modem I am assuming or their DNS 
routing but anyway I made this change on fresh image files that are 
new from the website and it works great!!!
