[arm-allstar] arm-allstar Digest, Vol 40, Issue 18 message 6

Doug,
I am using a WiFi provider for ISP. Ubiquity Rocket M5 radios. I don't have
a speaker connected yet. I will do that in the morning. I assume no
connection as when I disconnect the Ethernet cable and use the menu to look
for upgrades I get a solid blue screen, no text, and then it returns to the
menu. With the Ethernet connected I see text and then results in text form
when the action is completed. I also do not see my Pi3 static address listed
in the Asus wifi connected devices.

This is exactly how it should work.

You want 0 for a repeater remote base.

You can use 1 for a simplex base station if you want all the beeps.

Justin

Thanks Justin! I don't really care about the beeps, but I would like the
connection announcements. Any thoughts on the strange behavior when set to
1?

Thanks, Justin

I have experience the same issue in duplex mode 1 and turning the hangtime
to ZERO.
There is still a ping pong effect that occurs because of the repeaters
squelch hangtime. ?

if you want to run Duplex mode 1 to gain your telemetry your link to the
repeater will need to be a simplex link or run ctcss on the repeater only
when a cos signal is present. The S-comm 7330?
controller I use has this capability.??Eric (N7JYS) Marshall's

I have a newly imaged Pi3 connected to a Repeater Builder USB-RIM Lite
Connected to a Motorola CDM-750. This is a remote link for a local repeater
that doesn't have internet access at the site.

When I had the rpt file configured for duplex=0 the node functions perfectly
without any telemetry. When I set the file for 1 as soon as the repeater
transmits the node starts a cycle of transmitting a courtsey tone, dropping
the carrier, transmitting a courtsey tone, dropping the carrier, and so on.
It continues on and on until I change the option back to 0

I am hoping this is a simple setting I am missing.

Thank you in advance!

Justin

Justin,

The ping-pong effect is caused by the courtesy tone. You have a choice of
using duplex=0 but then you would have no connection messages. What you
should do is use duplex=1 and nounkeyct=1 - this command is already in
rpt.conf but set to 0. This should work in your situation.

Another option in a case where a repeater has no Internet access and thus no
ability to directly run Allstar is to have its output PL follow the input
PL. Then your remote node would not hear any tail transmission and would
respond just like the repeater user was coming directly to your node.
Carrying that a step further the repeater could have two different output
PL's, one following the input and the other the output. In that scenario
repeater users would use the output PL and your remote node the input PL.

First of all I am so sorry for your loss Dave. I still miss my Dad and he
passed in 2001. I feel your sadness.
Doug,
I am using the menu to setup WIFI.
The router is an Asus RT-N56U. I have other wireless devices that are
connected to it. Mainly cameras around the property.

Yes, latest greatest. RPi 3. USB Fob. Yes, using simpleusb. Tried it
three times this morning, with three different RPi's and 3 different
Fobs..... does it again and again.

Josh,

You have never said exactly what it does. If things are not set right in
simpleusb it can do strange things.

What is your radio and what settings are you setting/changing in simpleusb?

OK, just to confirm you are using the menu wifi setup? What is your router
model? Service provider? WIFI does work but I have seen cases where a
particular router may have problems. Are you getting an IP address back when
you boot using WIFI? If it is 127.0.0.1 then you are not connecting.
Anything else you probably are and there might be other issues.

Telemetry is control by the duplex type. Duplex 0 is no telemetry and duplex
1 has telemetry for simplex operation. Have you changed any other settings
in rpt.conf?

Dear Dave KB4FXC,

Deepest sympathy on your Dad?s passing. Times heals but we never forget -

Justin
