[arm-allstar] Radio transmission issues

I have set up a node on a rpi3 using a URIx and a Beofeng 888s. I believe
I have it soldered/wired right as the pi can key up the radio and unkey, I
hear the automated voice tell the date, time etc. I can use my phone and
connect to the node and hear myself come though to the node radio great.
The only show stopping issue I have is that when someone is connected to
the node, and when I try to transmit from my HT (which is in simplex to the
radio attached to the node mind you) the other person can't hear me, or
complains about choppy audio. I have tested this myself with my node and
using the echolink app on my phone. I can hear myself very clear when I
talk on my phone, but when I transmit/respond on my HT, it comes through
my phone as choppy at best, and nothing at worst.
I played with the simpletune-USB option and tried to tune my radio but it
doesn't seem to do much of anything to improve my problem.
Any ideas?
