[arm-allstar] Portable node set up to proxy: what am I missing?

Hi y'all,

Using the instructions here:
https://allstarlink.org/proxy.html

I'm setting up a portable node to use my main permanent node as a proxy. The portable node (thanks Peter) is built on a Raspberry Pi II.

First, and this may be part of it, at the moment I have both nodes on the same LAN. The portable is on port 4570, and I did set up port forwarding for it. First, I need to set up another network once I get my cellular hotspot, should be in the next day or two. I'm not finding the files that are mentioned in the wifi howto on hamvoip.org. Where is the wpa_suplicant.conf kept so I can add the new network, or, alternatively, how do I add the new network once I have its credentials? I could add my iPhone's personal hotspot too, but still need to know where the configuration file is. I thought it was /run/network/wpa_supplicant_wlan0.conf but that seems to be dynamically generated from something else.

Next thing:
I can connect to my own node on the same LAN, which I expect, but I can't connect to anything else. I can connect everywhere on my primary node, but not the portable node. When I attempt a connection, here's what I get on the portable node with max verbosity:
29995*CLI> rpt fun 29995 *341522

From the other end, that is, on the machine that's acting as proxy (my main permanent node):

Accepting AUTHENTICATED call from 192.168.1.1:
       > requested format = g726aal2,
       > requested prefs = (g726aal2|ilbc),
       > actual format = ilbc,
       > host prefs = (ilbc|g726aal2),
       > priority = mine

    -- Hungup 'IAX2/29995-1245'

Now if I made that same call from 2331, the permanent node, it would have gone through.

So what am I missing/what have I overlooked? Any clues?
