[arm-allstar] RPi2 Update

Luke,

You are right about the older Raspberry Pi boards but the RPi2 is a new board that came out towards the beginning of the year. It has a four core 1 Ghz processor so it is much more powerful then its predecessors or even the BBB.

At this point for new buys I would recommend the RPi2. It is more powerful and also cheaper! The BBB's have remained at about $50 average while the RPi2's are $35. At least they are suppose to sell for that. Some suppliers are charging more at the moment because of the demand. I doubt you have a Microcenter store near you but if you do they are selling the RPi2 for $34.99 in store only. A full list of possible purchase sites is on the hamvoip.org site.

The RPi2 looks very good. We are going to Beta testing in a few days and I hope to have the RPi2 image out by Easter. The new RPi2 and update BBB images will have many new features.

Hello Doug, Thanks for the update as I have been wanting to get a node up and running on either the BBB or the RPi platform. In the past I was under the impression that the BBB was the better platform to run Allstar on, but from your latest post below, it sounds like the new RPi2 in the more capable board, probably a faster and more capable processor?I was going to pick up the BBB this weekend, should I be looking at the RPi2 instead? Thanks for any insight you can offer.Best regards, Luke - KK7XX

As I know many of you are eagerly waiting for the RPi2 image I wanted to give you an update. We are at our last Alpha and so far only very minor problems which have all been corrected. Overall it looks like it is going to be a winner. I expect beta testing late this week and V1.0 release should be around Easter.

Once the RPi2 code is released we will be working on the 1.3 release of the BBB code. The BBB 1.3 release and the RPi2 1.0 release will track very closely in features but expect future RPi2 releases to have many more features and certainly more capability than the BBB.

Once we get the final beta package together later this week I will give a more detailed description of what will be in the RPi2 1.0 release.
