[arm-allstar] How To for using GPIO on the DMK URI?

I'm just beginning to look at using some of the GPIO functions available in
the Rpi2 / DMK URI. Looks like there are LOTS of different ways to
accomplish the same task. To get started, I'd like to keep things as simple
as possible. Really don't want to use the Pi's GPIO pins or an outboard USB
device. Can someone point me in the right direction for information on
controlling the URI's GPIO pins 1, 2 & 4?
