Mark,
I spoke with W0ANM about the power down and he supplied a fix that works which will be in the next release. It will also allow you to run commands in a script before power down if you desire. This is not a big deal but it would be nice for occasions where you want to shutdown without just pulling the power and have no terminal available like at a remote site.
The Ethernet issue is a little more complex and why would you be plugging or unplugging cables hot anyhow? We will look into it. This definitely does not work on USB, although I have had it work occasionally.
