[arm-allstar] Hamvoip as a repeater controller

Yes, with an interface (the DMK URIx works, I also have 2 others from
a local ham that he builds for his own use) HamVoIP can control most
any repeater/radio.
Personally I moved from old beat up GE MASTR II with SCOM 7K to
HamVoip (allstarlink) :on:
Raspberry Pi 3 (just got me a new 4 with 8GB, may move to it with the
addition of the 220)
2 TYT 9000D 2m (1 RX 1 TX)
2 9000D UHF
and about to add 2 9000D 220MHz once I find a decent set of duplexer cans.
(yes, I did the TYT trick for the DB9 connection, havent had any problems)
Since I am more adept at SSH & Asterisk config than researching
manuals to write numerical scripts to play DTMF over the air to
reprogram the 7K (which I am donating to our ARES group where the EC
insists on a "hardware" controller {rolls eyes}), using the
Pi/hamvoip is much more powerful and flexible IMHO. (at my former
employer, I built a phone to MS SQL database interface app with
asterisk --call in, it reads you values/prompts, change values
by punching in numbers)
You just have to get the rpt.conf right for your specific radio
setup, and you should tweak audio levels, etc, there is a script/util
for that. .
With it you get:
Allstar
Echolink
multiple bands/radio on the same controller (PC/Pi/etc) as long as
you have interfaces and USB inputs, just copy/paste/edit the stanza
in rpt.conf for each radio interface.
AutoSky (NWS weather alerts)
Configurable time/weather/etc announcements (I have mine use my
weather-underground values so when it says my temp at top of the
hour, its from my Davis wx stn out back)
If you have a Asterisk PBX/SIP trunk setup, easy to add phone
capabilities (phone/reverse patch). I can dial into my repeater from
anywhere in the world (if you know the multi-digit sequence once
dialed into my PBX) and call any phone from the radio.
No worries about internal battery life (before I moved to HamVoip I
had replaced the mem chip on the 7K to get the last firmware and a
fresher battery, which they said they didnt have many left...)
Whatever cool stuff the dev team comes up with to easily add down the road.
IMHO the new tech beats the old stuff hands-down..
73 & GL!
