[arm-allstar] Having issues connecting to multiple nodes

Howdy all,
I am on the latest hamvoip version and I am having issues with connecting to several nodes.  If I hardcode them in rpt.conf it works, so I ruled out routing issues.. And the nodes I try to connect to are registered.
I thought I might look at the rpt_extnodes file but I can’t read it on any of my nodes.. What is the trick I am missing here?
I want to verify that the ip tables are getting updated correctly.
