For the adventurous, you can pick up old iron pretty cheap and run your own
home lab server (read some stories cloud providers are going to raise their
rates). Throw Proxmox Hypervisor on it with its web interface and you can
create all the virtual servers you want splitting the hardware and memory
up between them (pretty easy). It will give you a lot more power and
control. Not cheaper than $12 a year with power consumption, but it can be
a lot of fun to play with and open you up for running more services or
giving your buddies their own Allstarlink/DVSwitch Server instances...

Good site to search for deals on retired servers:

One warning, these servers are equipped to move a lot of air in server
facilities and are not quiet (intel NUC could be a quiet option or old PC).
If you go with a Dell Poweredge R410 or R710 there is a Python script to
take over the fan control from the iDRAC unit to quiet them down a lot
(integrated Dell Remote Access Controller - web interface to the server
with Java virtual console and dedicated ethernet port allowing remote power
up, reboot, power down, BiOS, RAID configuation... gives you remote access
to the machine like you have a keyboard, mouse and monitor plugged in).
