If you have a Raspberry Pi running at home, check out PiVPN. Really easy
way to setup a VPN at home. If you're familiar with docker, it's also
really easy to setup a Wireguard VPN container too. I have an old dedicated
Pi 2 that runs PiHole with Unbound for my own recursive DNS server that
blocks a lot of ad/tracking/malware sites while giving us more privacy, and
I just added PiVPN on that machine. For backup I run PiHole, Unbound and
Wireguard VPN in docker containers on another Pi. The nice thing about this
setup is when you get on the VPN you're also using your PiHole/Unbound DNS
servers which is a great way to block ads on your phones and other devices.
And with home VPN you don't have to expose a lot of other ports to the
internet.
