Thanks to all the PM'ed me redarding possible solutions that did not eliminate the problem. 

I did SOLVE THE PROBLEM of the RPI bebooting anywhere from 1 to 6 hours uptime.
The RPI has now been running the solution was as I suspected in my original post.. The SD card..
I had upgraded from 8GB SD card to 16Gb "sandisk" SD card.. that was simply a black SD card with white writing on it. It said SANDISK.. but was NOT one of the RED-GRAY ones.. I mentioned I had just received three 16GB SANDISK SD cards (Amazon.com 3 pack $14.95 delivered) and used one this time.

I burned a new version of the latest software and set it up so everything was completely new on the card..uptime shows 12 hours 47 minutes..
PROBLEM SOLVED...old SD card destroyed.
