You get what you pay for, and one of the things you pay for is support. If something goes wrong in a mission-critical system, you want to have someone you can get on the phone with and get the problem solved ASAP.

While ASL and HamVoip have shown themselves to be stable (enough), I'd be VERY leery of using either in a mission critical application, such as public safety
