I have several MaxTracs setup on 445.X frequencies. They are turned down
to 2 watts and have a 6 inch cable over to a rubber duck mounted to one of
the side holes. The interface cable is pretty easy to make. The interface
card is in a plastic box with a 1 ft usb cable over to the Pi. Velcro is
your friend! They work great. It all depends on how comfortable you are
with them.
