[arm-allstar] Window IP change

Hi Don;

Hamvoip is executing on a computer (ie RPi, you didn't say what your
platform is) and if you want it available to the Internet, it MUST have
an IP address. Every network device needs an IP to access it.

What has happened to you is quite common. I'm also going to guess that
you have a router between your modem and the rest of the network. From
time to time, routers reset and in doing so, it may reset IP addresses.
(Note: resets always happen after a power failure.) To prevent that from
happening, any device, such as your node, that needs the same IP must
not have a dynamically set address. When static, next time the router
resets, it knows the node's IP has been reserved and will give it back.

As Dave said, probably the easiest way is to go into the Hamvoip menu #6
and set the IP as static. If you have familiarity with configuring your
router, you could also set it from there. In fact, you could set any
network device to static. I'm a former HP (Laserjet) tech and the most
common issue from customers was lack of connectivity. In 90+% of the
cases, the cause of connectivity issues was the same reason as what
happened to you - the router reset and assigned a different IP.

Not all devices need a static IP, however, I advocate that printers and
any other device that is configured to a specific IP from within that
device's software should be set as static from the router.

My setup of the Hamvoip Allstar node has been running flawlessly. I go
away
this past Friday and I got word the node was down. I got home yesterday
and
I see the IP was changed.

How can I create a way not to have the IP address? I do have a NO IP but
I
have no idea how to set it up for the Hamvoip Allstar PI.
