[arm-allstar] Is port forwarding required?

Without a VPN you can only make outbound Allstar only connections. Cell
phone providers will use double NAT for all their connections.. simply put
there are not enough IPv4 addresses to cover every individual connected
cellular device in the world.
One thing I have also noticed with some providers, particularly resellers..
their DNS servers will use one IP for outbound and another for inbound
connections. We tried using a node on a modem with a SIM card from Unreal
Mobile (an AT&T reseller) and every node was dropping the call because the
IP that was connecting was not the same as the one you’re registered with.
Last option.. the node you are connecting to does not allow, or is not set
up to allow inbound connections (no ports opened, same setup, etc)
You have two options:
1 (Easier) Set up a VPN or virtual private network. This is a virtual
server that uses a static IP address and allows you to forward your
connection through. Hamvoip offers two flavors, OpenVPN and another that
I’m having trouble remembering while mobile.
2 (Less easy) Set up a hub node on a virtual server with proper ports
forwarded and set your node up to connect to it every time it starts. This
will only work if your provider is not using multiple IP’s for your
connection.
