Hi David,

For this usage scenario, without separate AP hardware, I'd probably try 
ad-hoc WiFi networking.  This should work without needing additional 
software (like hostapd). It also has the advantage that individual devices 
talk directly to each other, removing the central point of failure and 
extra latency.

...Like I say, it's worth a try. I have no idea what gremlins may lurk! At 
least setup is simple and most major issues should show up quickly (not 
wasting much time experiementing).
