I've been in need of a script to do just that. I'm new to scripting and just don't have the knowledge to do it myself right now. Would you care to share the script you use to check for the connection? I would appreciate it very much.

If perm connect isn't working, I run a script that checks if the connection
is up, then reconnects it if found off.
You sent the frequency of the check via a cron entry.
You may need a script like that.
