Use easy rsa to build keys.  I run my entire network on a VPN.  End points connect to a server. Makes end points easy to config.  Static addresses can be assigned as well as poer forwarding does not need to be set in routers since openvpn makes outbound connections.  Another good benefit is endpoints can be static addresses and put in node stanza of rpt.conf.   you can put all your nodes on a single web address using supermon just tell manager to allow connections from main VPN server.
