[arm-allstar] 2 nodes direct connect?

Jim,

The only thing "Allstar" is being used for is DNS lookup.

You can disable registration, then and add your nodes to each other's rpt.conf as local nodes but using their public IPs. The IP address for a local node doesn't have to be on the local LAN.

That will works as long as your node's public IP addresses never change. Otherwise you could use a dynamic DNS name not associated with AllstarLink.

You'd still be able to connect out to other nodes but your nodes would be unlisted.

Subject: [arm-allstar] 2 nodes direct connect?

I got my new VHF node (and old extended-number UHF node) all online
and showing up on the stats page, etc.
Working great.

I have both units online, and added the stuff to make the new one
automagically link up permanent at boot.

From what I can tell, this is linking out to Allstar and back in.
Is there a way/config that would let one connect to the other
directly without contacting the Allstar network?
(URL to a doc if one is already written that google and I cant find? )

I would still like both to show up and not go totally private, but am
thinking if I can have both link directly peer to peer over the
private network and not be reliant on touching the Internet (in case
Spectrum decides to do more work upstream...smh) the 2 machines would
not lose the link between themselves.

I know with Asterisk-based VoIP phones, I can do a direct Dial by IP,
where 1 talks direct to the other via IP address.
Is there some way to do this on for the nodes? Im guessing either in
Rpt or Extensions?

I know it is NOT possible via Echolink (researched way back when I
had just EL on the machine).

Thanks!
