[arm-allstar] Link 2 Repeaters

Hi,  I'm having a hard time finding a "how to" using 
Asterisk/app.rpt/hamvoip.  I have 2 closed private Motorola GR1225 UHF 
repeaters in nearby cities that I want to link so when either one opens 
they both open, Is this possible? Or would I have to use some DTMF code 
to open the other repeater? I don't want to be part of Allstarlink .  I 
have internet at both repeater sites, so making both repeaters a "node" 
how would the 2 repeaters communicate with one another without the 
reflector?  How would both nodes be configured? Any insight would be 
greatly appreciated.
