Tony,

HamVoIP, as well as ASL, are HEAVILY multi-tasking / multi-threaded
applications and are able to take advantage of multiple processors/cores.
Every separate node instance constitutes several additional threads on top
of the core threads that drive the Asterisk application. Any "typical"
AllStar node will have 20+ threads running at any given time. To see all
the running threads at a given moment, use the "core show threads" command
from the asterisk CLI.

Now, all this being said, there are still some serious hot-spots in the
AllStar architecture where there is only per-node single-threaded
execution. One example of this is the DSP code in the chan_usbradio
driver. Another example is the rpt thread in the app_rpt module itself.

I've already improved much of the efficiency in the rpt thread, with some
major enhancements in the development pipeline.

There are also some new channel drivers in development to completely fix
the DSP woes as seen in usbradio, too.
