I have played with this,

It was about as easy as it gets, I did modify the script that generates
users on the server side to fit my needs and requirements.
This sets up the server and has examples for clients on a few different
platforms.
If your putting the server on the local network of a node you will have
more things to do to get the VPN network to talk to the local network
node. Those instructions can be found on openvpns website.
