Sorry, semantics failed me... 
 I have one and only one HT that I have tried on several Pi w/usb dongle based nodes.  The problem is specific to the combination of this one radio and any Node (of now four).  Other HT's & mobiles do not exhibit the problem on the same nodes and the same HT does NOT have the problem with any other DTMF decoders (three that I have tried).  I know, dump the radio... but it's become a bit of a challenge to determine the issue now!  BTW don't waste much time on this... I've frittered away enough for all of us!
