Justin,
This is one of those things I should elaborate on in the howto.
The favorites (and control) drop downs work on whatever node is selected in
the drop down on the left. In other words the drop down selected node or
the source node is replaced by %node% in the favorites.ini file
So understanding you can only control source nodes you are directly
connected to you can do it. Many Supermon users like myself have all their
servers in one Supermon instance. I use one of the servers as my Supermon
http server and all the other nodes if not on that server have manager
connects set in allmon.ini. So I can control all the nodes from one place
but for nodes not actually on the Supermon http server I am connected to It
uses the manager connects.
If you are only controlling one server with Supermon it is easy BUT
remember you cannot connect source nodes you do not have on that server
elsewhere. As I mentioned when you have multiple servers in one Supermon
screen and you have their managers connected you need to select the source
node in the dropdown at the left then go into the favorites and execute
items you can do from that selected source node.
The problem is that how do you know what source node you are using when
everything in the favorites is lumped together. To make this easier the
answer is you can use node stanzas in both the favorites and control ini
files. This limits you to seeing and doing things you can actually do given
the source node you have selected. Here is an example -
Suppose you have nodes 40000, 40001, 40002 displayed in Supermon and lets
assume you have manager control over all three. In the favorites.ini file
you could have the following:
[40000]
label[] = "Connect 45000"
cmd[] = "rpt cmd %node% ilink 3 45000"
[40001]
label[] = "Connect 45001"
cmd[] = "rpt cmd %node% ilink 3 45001"
[40002]
label[] = "Connect 45002"
cmd[] = "rpt cmd %node% ilink 3 45002"
So if you had the source drop down set to 40000 you would ONLY see that
first stanza in favorites in this example. You could have many things
defined within that stanza but only those would be shown. This makes more
sense since these would be the only ones that would work with the given
source node.
Is this clear and doe sit answer your question? If not let me know.
