I have done GM300s but not a 340, although I assume it is similar.  While I
prefer to program Pin 4 for COR/COS and leave 8 available for channel
steering I have found that most pre-made cables (at least the few I know of)
assume PIn 8 is COS and PIn 12 is Carrier Squelch+CTCSS, so I actually
recommend using those assignments to minimize the possibility of
complications and to keep things simple.
