Pin 8 is a good choice. Peter is right on.
I use pin 8 for COS signal in the cables that I build.
Then program pin 8 on the radio for "PL & CSQ Detect" active high.

Rick,
The COR pin is user defined in the programming software under 'GPIO'
My suggestion would be to use 'PL Detect' on pin 8, you can set it active HIGH or LOW.
