David,
There are two transmit audio outputs. First make sure you are adjusting
the right one. There are two identical outputs. While it is usually #3 on
the menu it could be #4 if wired that way.. Assuming you have the right
output You probably have way too much drive to the transmitter and you are
overloading it to the extent that the level is not appearing to change. If
that is the case you will have to use a resistive divider to reduce the
output from the FOB to your transmitter. There is no level adjustment in
rpt.conf only a relative adjustment for telemetry. You must set the RX -
menu item 2 first. That is the level into your node from your RF device.
Then set the output level. The output level has no bar graph. If you don't
have a meter that reads deviation then the best thin g to do is set this
such that the level you hear on the radio receiving the output of your node
is about the same as from other sources such as a local repeater.
