[arm-allstar] Stupid newbie question. Would learning python help automate things in this distro?

Would learning python, from the very beginning, help me "control" this distribution better? 
The way it is dialed in now is very good. I'm looking to learn more and automate commands more so that the box is more self sustaining without my intervention. 
I don't know if this distro uses python 2 or 3 yet. I haven't tested that simple thing yet. I do know that hacking, programming, and modding things is getting back to my teen roots in computers. In my teens, command line and dos was king.
