[arm-allstar] No audio output from node id, time stamp etc

I have set up a new node with the following equipment.

Rpi3, Baofeng 888s and an Advanced Repeater Systems USB Allstar adapter portable radio version which has in put to the 888s via the mic and speaker sockets. Using the latest Rpi3 download.

Echo tests show that signals are being received and transmitted and asterisk.CLI shows dtmf being decoded and the id, status and time messages running. However none of those messages result in any audio being transmitted. Connection to another active node plays the id from the distant connection.

Reference is made in the literature to the file usbradio.conf but I only see usbradio.conf.xxx to which I have not found any mention. I assume that I have an incorrect setting in the software and hope that some one with greater knowledge of the workings can point me in the right direction.
