Dave,

 At this point I cannot vouch for the USB backup routines in V1.5 - I have
not used them in awhile and in fact there may very well be an issue. I will
check. I really do not recommend the live backup anyway. It was something
we toyed with way back. It is generally not recommended to backup a live
Linux system. I would not want to depend on it.

The best thing to do is get things basically the way you want them,
shutdown normally and remove the SD card and copy using win32diskimager or
dd to a file on your computer. You then have the option of just leaving it
there or actually making a backup SD card. I suspect that you would want to
make an SD card and leave it at the site taped to the Pi.
