You might want to try something like an I-pad with an IaxRpt client on it. Make it fill the whole screen so the numbers are large. If you have an android phone you can get the IaxRpt app that has the touch tone pad.

Hi Doug, I got a bit frustrated trying to hold the steering wheel whilst
pressing PTT and the keys on the radio!  I thought an easier solution would
be to have a numeric keypad like this

sitting next to the gear shifter, plugged directly into the pi.
