A few weeks ago I made reference to a new USB FOB that does not have a
case. It is a nicely made FOB and does work *BUT* it uses a CM108B which is
not supported as a product code in the current hamvoip images. It *WILL* be
supported in the about to be released V1.5 image. So if you ordered one and
tried to make it work on the current images depending on the chip on the
board and the product code returned it may not work. These boards have a
single RED led that blinks when initialized like the green LED on earlier
FOBS. If it stays solid it is not initializing. Just put it aside and wait
for V1.5. Not all of these bare boards use the CM108B, so you may get one
that works fine on the earlier images.
FOB's should always be tested before you start modifying or using them to
at least see that they initialize. To do this on a running system pull the
existing FOB out and plug in the FOB to be tested. The green (or red) LED
should start blinking. If you want you could plug headphones into the FOB
and if your node is connected and someone is talking you should hear it.
When done pull the tested FOB out and plug the original back in and it
should initialize and return to normal operation.
Alternatively you can plug a FOB into a Windows, Mac, or Linux system and
play audio through it. The green (or red) LED should blink while the audio
is being played. You could also record audio if you connect a microphone.
You need to select the FOB as the audio destination and source.
Here is the board I am talking about, it is also listed in the howto's -
