Well the some guy named Crompton is me!
I think you are OK now. For the record as long as you have it wired
correctly the only things you need to change for the 888 from the default
settings are carrierfrom or cosfrom is usb not usbinvert and of course set
the levels. Nothing else needs to be changed.
The wire coming out should never be near the antenna. It should be a
shielded wire and routed away (down) from the antenna. Also wiring inside
should not be place over the TX side of the PC board. This is the opposite
side from the radio PTT. The RF output side is the side where the antenna
comes out. Using an external antenna on a coax run away from the radio and
not the rubber ducky will help the situation if you cannot cure it with
lead placement.
These radio work very well and have very good audio when setup correctly.
