I got it from some guy named “Crompton”! :) http://crompton.com/hamradio/baofeng888/
I used one of the later photos that shows COS coming from the solder side of the board.
Just going to follow up on the other things, but as I said in my reply to David it is working correctly now as long as the cable from the radio stays away from the antenna. If it gets close all I get is noise. I have it pulled as far away as possible, and all is working.
Just to follow up on your other comments: I did the test you suggested, and I do get 2v+ on COS in the DB25 when I key another radio. So, that’s confirmed. Also, I checked rpt.conf and have duplex=1.

Dan,
Where did you get the mod info from? There is a howto on the hamvoip.org <http://hamvoip.org> website. COS comes from pin 1 of the audio chip. It is an 8 pin chip and depending on the 888 version your may need to remove the board to get to it. This is all described in the howto. Also what USB FOB are you using?
You can test this without Allstar. Disconnect from the FOB and key another radio into the 888. With a meter from the COS line you installed from the radio to ground it should go high with signal - above 2V - and low without, near 0 volts.
Make sure you did not accidentally select 2 for duplex in the setup. You can also look at the /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf file and look for the duplex= line. It should be duplex=1
Again the V command in simpleusb-tune-menu is a good test. The COS should go KEYED when your 888 is receiving and it should stayed keyed as long as you have the radio talking to the 888 keyed.
When you unkey the PTT should briefly key to send the courtesy tone.

Thanks, Doug. I did have COS set to USBINVERT, so I changed that. I was
already set up for simplex mode (I think).
In rpt.conf I have duplex = 1, and in simpleusb.conf I have carrierfrom=usb
But, the behavior is even more bizarre! After making the change to
carrierfrom I restarted asterisk. When I run the V option everything is
clear, but the radio is transmitting. If I change COSFROM to USBINVERT and
then back to USB the radio stops transmitting for a moment and then starts
again.
Is it possible that I have COS connected incorrectly in the radio?
