The HamVoIP/AllStar VoIP network uses Asterisk/IAX2 as the underlying
transport method. I don't know of any IP walkie-talkies which implement 
this type of network layer.

Since Asterisk is used as the transport, integration with VoIP phones,
portable devices and/or PSTN is trivial. Also, the underlying architecture
is truly uses full duplex audio, including a robust assortment of 
audio CODECs.

It's very easy to build a simple "hot spot" and then access it via a 
standard analog FM 2-way radio.
