  With anything like this you have to test it. We can only make assumptions
based on what you say. Trying to recreate the scenario is the best way to
test. You can see if the node RX is open by listening on the node radios
receiver. It is the node receiver that is opening and keying the COS. You
can also bring up simpleusb-tune-menu from the main menu and select the V
option. This will show the cos-input which would be "keyed" in the case of
a valid incoming signal. Make sure when using the 888 the cosfrom is set to
usb. When no signal is present the cosfrom should show "clear"

While it is unlikely an external signal would open a PL'ed radio under the
right circumstances it could happen. Make sure the PL is really programmed
on. It sounds like that might possibly be the case. A non PL'ed radio will
key whether or not PL is coming in. Turn the PL off on the radio you are
keying your node with and see if it keys. The only way you would know is to
do further testing. The other issue when using the 888 is possible RF
getting into the FOB. I generally recommend an external antenna. A quarter
wave mag mount with 10 feet of coax and an SMA connector to the 888 is very
inexpensive on ebay,

If it does turn out to be the computer distance will solve your problem and
really not that much distance. Maybe 5-10 feet.
