Josh,

I think you may not be a member of the forum as I had to approve your email
so you might not know about the web page - hamvoip.org - there you will
find lots of information and howto's.

I assume you are using the hamvoip V1.5 image where hamlib is included.

Just a quick primer on hamlib. Yes you would use a USB to serial interface
if your radio required serial I/O. If it was USB you would just connect it
USB to USB. When you connect a device it gets registered with a device name
in Linux. Connect the USB to serial or USB and then do a 'dmesg' command at
the linux prompt right after you connect the device. It should show the
device path. This path and the radio model information is use in the hamlib
'rigctl' command line.

You them use this in the hamlib commands -

rigctl -h gives you the commands but a very good info sheet can be found
here -

http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/xenial/man1/rigctl.1.html

or by doing a 'man rigctl' at the Linux prompt.

There are also howto's on the hamvoip.org web page on how to control a
remote radio via DTMF in Allstar using hamlib.

The TM-V7 is number 227 on the hamlib list - do 'rigctl -l' for a list.
The 227 would be used as the model in the command line -m 227

The Pi zero W might work but it has not been tested yet and will currently
not boot the image. This is just a boot problem that can be fixed but the
Pi Zero W is a considerably scaled down Pi3. It remains to be seen if it
functions OK with one node and otherwise light loading running Allstar. I
would recommend using or at least starting with a Pi3 for your system. If
and when we get the Pi zero working you will probably just be able to move
the SD card over to it.

Others have done what you want to do so any specific questions you may have
could be answered here. Be sure to subscribe to the forum at the email
address you intend to use. The forum link is on the hamvoip.org web page.
