[arm-allstar] Version 1.3 Weather Script Howto

I, for one, am not concerned about the alerts but really want current
conditions and perhaps forecasts.
My priority would be current conditions with things like daily high/low,
wind speed and gust, rainfall with rate per hour and various totals for day,
week, month and year.
I have been struggling with the Aculink and internet bridge trying to pull
data via an IP intercept and busting up the data to create a list of
variables that could then be used to construct condition reports.
I could grab the basics from Weather Underground since the Aculink can be
set to report to them but they update every 15 minutes. There is lots of
info on how to rapid fire but at that point it seems better to just grab and
handle the data locally.
I guess for generalized usage the most practical option is scripts that
allow building condition reports from WU.
So for now that's what I'd hope could be done.

Sam,
Unfortunately yes and I don't think that is going to change. I am also not
sure if we are going to continue to support the WX scripts in the images but
that remains to be seen. For now though the present code does not work or
should I say does not work right.
We were talking about doing a survey on this. Just how many people use
weather on Allstar? Given the state of communications now and smart phones
etc. weather alerts are available instantly there and many other places.
Other than a novelty is it really something we need in Allstar. Also should
we depend on a system that could potentially fail when needed. Just some
thoughts. Comments?

Is there still an issue with Google TTS? My system is not generating the
wx_forecast.ul or any .ul files.
I'm using the 1.3 release on a RPi2.
The Cron job is updating some of the files because I see them in the /tmp/wx
folders

Hi Pierre,
No, the scripts parse the National Weather Server County alerts. It is very
specific and I don't plan to enhance the scripts to support Canadian alerts
at this time. It may be possible to use Advanced Message Queuing Protocol
with their python script, but at this time I don't have the time to dedicate
to this enhancement at this time.

does your script use the aqmp protocole to get new alerts?
if so we have the same thing here..
http://dd.weather.gc.ca/doc/README_AMQP.txt
first part is in french the rest is in english..
they also have link to pyton script..
now I dont know if this could be used to have canadian alerts..

that xml is just a normal weater report..
I would have to find out about alerts.
But about the underground weater station, you seem to imply that they are
also in Canada.
Would that service be enough to have alert report?

This appears to be just weather report information in general (current
conditions, forecast). I would have to become familiar with the Canadian
Weather Service and how they report weather alerts. As far as reporting,
the Underground Weather does the same thing with more flexibility.
So, bottom line, I am not sure how Canadian Weather Service handles the
weather alerts or if it's even like the US National Weather Service. I do
like how the xml data contains current conditions, forecasts, and almanac
information. But as far as current weather conditions, the Underground
Weather Stations are all around the world and there is no reason to change
this.

Chris, W0anm has been busy updating the weather scripts for the forthcoming
version 1.3 release. I have placed the Howto for weather forecasts and
alerts version 1.3 on the hamvoip.org <http://hamvoip.org> web page. This
will allow those who use this feature to read up on it before the release.
This will be consistent across the BBB and RPi2/3 platforms.
