Greg,
OK here is what I just did.
First of all I have a key from registering months ago at the site.
In the /root directory using V1.02 ....
- I downloaded the package using wget.
- I installed the package
- I edited the tts.conf file with my key
- I created a test file with "this is a test" called test.txt
- I ran 'tts_audio.sh test.txt'
- It created in the same directory 'test.ul' which can be played.
Not sure what your problem is? Are you trying simple text files to test?
Make sure the Key is correct. Best to cut and paste it.
Although I don't think this would apply to you but the free use of the site does have a daily limit. It is fairly large but converting long files many times a day could reach the limit.

Greg,
Did you register with voicerss and get the api key? Did you
edit the config file and add api key?

Doug
I did follow the instructions on that page, I am using and
set up voicerss.org. I am simply asking why the output for
'tts_audio.sh test.txt' is
"Failed to convert mp3 file to wav audio file (lame decode
failure)

retry script

Greg,
You need to read the current tts howto on the
hamvoip.org web page. It describes how to setup the tts
in the latest code. Note this may change yet again in
future code. This uses the voicerss system which is
described there. Other options are also described.
I remind everyone - always check the howto's first!
