Krys,
You need to have a hardware COS signal to Allstar so the hardware you are using would have to have a vox circuit that asserted a hardware COS. In any event VOX can usually be made to work but is not a good idea. In every case I have seen it causes problems at some point.
The 2900 is not a good choice for an Allstar node radio given it has no external data connections. It would also be a waste of a good dual band radio. There are quite a few better choices from a $15 baofeng to a $160 Alinco that would work with a modified FOB or DMK URI.
Instructions on how to modify a FOB and interface a Baofeng 888 are at the hamvoip.org website. Neither are that difficult. With a few parts and a little effort you can have a complete radio and interface for under $30.

Subject: [arm-allstar] Easy Digi
I've got the software side of my Pi all setup, and running. The problem I'm having, is with the configuration of my Easy Digi interface ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/EASY-DIGI-USB-Sound-Card-Interface-NO-MORE-USB-RS232-ADAPTERS-W-CABLES-/221669005522 ). I'm not sure how to configure it. It would seem that simple USB applies, but I can not get it working. This unit was made to interface with a Yaesu FT-2900R ( https://www.yaesu.com/indexVS.cfm?cmd=DisplayProducts&ProdCatID=106&encProdID=ACC99ABCBC3E6900FF03ECF2B6382250&DivisionID=65&isArchived=0 ). There is an FTDI USB interface that goes to the mic port, and a cord to the 3.5 mm speaker port on the radio. I then have it fed into the Pi through an unmodified USB sound fob using both in and out 3.5 mm ports. I had it working on Echolink (Windows) usin VOx for RX, and RTS for TX.
Thanks in AdvanceKrys BealK3EAL
