Yes, that was a bug that accidentally got into the code when the echo
problem was fixed. I suppose the echo feature is useful but I never use it.
In a simplex node it really doesn't matter if the levels match. I would say
set the output level - what you hear - by comparing it to other signals on
the band like repeaters in your area. It is not critical. For transmit into
your node use the display in simpleusb-tune-menu item 2. It should show
peaks to 5-6 khz or occasionally a little beyond. You can also use the
iaxrpt bar graph as a reference. You audio peaks should go to about 95% of
full scale but never into the end of the scale.
Not promising anything but there will probably be some bug fixes and
enhancements in the BBB code in the future. The problem is the BBB is not
old by computer standards and up-to-date SW support is lacking.
