Hi Wade,

I experimented a little and duplicated the error you're seeing:

Don't enclose the userID in '<' or '>' symbols.

Just do something like:

htpasswd -cd .htpasswd  MyUsername


...Where the "MyUsername" is the name you want. Note that it can't have 
spaces, etc.
