[arm-allstar] Better audio?

I think I'm running bbb 1.2.1.
I didn't think any newer code was in actual release but only beta.
Yes I removed the ";" and set to yes on those lines.
I'll get the how-to again and have somebody take a look.
I do not understand this sentence.
"RX/TX PL is handled by the repeater and ID is turned off in the repeater
and supplied by Allstar."
Does this mean I should set my PL encode and decode with the repeater menus
but make sure to turn off the onboard repeater id?
tnx

Chris,
Your remark about pre and deempahsis making little or no change does not
make sense. You should definitely notice a difference in changing that.
What code are you using. Earlier versions of the code did not have
pre-emphasis.
Also you have to make sure you uncomment - take the semicolon off and set
them to yes and restart Allstar - astres.sh - when you make the change.
The mods are in the howto (hardware) section at hamvoip.org. It involves
breaking the lines between the RX and TX internally. It also talks about how
to set simpleusb.conf
RX/TX PL is handled by the repeater and ID is turned off in the repeater and
supplied by Allstar.
I recommend the 1.02 (or 1.01) RPi2 code or 1.2.2 BBB code for use with the
DR1.

I did play with the de and pre settings but noticed little change.
Not sure which mods you are referencing, we did build up the URI interface
and as indicated activated the onboard amp.
Currently the repeater is completely in remote mode with only the BBB doing
the lifting.
The audio sounds muddy and dull.
No high-end at all. Low-end rolled-off well above 300HZ.
I need sighted help so any re-wiring or changes on the DR1X screens depends
on when I can get it.

Chris,
I am very surprised that you are not getting good audio with the DR1X. We
have several repeaters in my area using Allstar with that repeater with
excellent audio. I assume you are using only analog FM on the repeater? Did
you follow the mods I published on hamvoip.org?
simpleusb has very good audio and most problems can be attributed to the
radio or settings. I believe the DR1 repeaters need both deemphasis and
pre-emphasis set to on. Make sure both are uncommented and set to yes.
Exactly what is not right with the audio. Too many lows, highs, distorted?

Sorry about the length ahead of time.
I just moved my simplex node to a DR1X repeater and have started to
reconfigure much of my node.
Since I was using an older radio for the simplex operation I didn't pay much
attention to the audio quality.
However now as a repeater system under full allstar control I am quite
unhappy with the audio.
Some things I don't understand:
The differences and impact of the rx and tx parameters between the
simpleusb.conf and the simple_tune_usb.conf don't seem to be apparent.
I toggled the preemphasis parameter in simpleusb.conf but it didn't seem to
matter much.
We added the amp power to the URI and at least that increased the levels
enough to make the system usable but it also seemed to increase the
background noise level going to the TX while keyed even with no audio.
Is there a way to add some sort of eq?
What parameters would increase the input so that output could be dialed
back?
I'm including as input items for increase not only OTA audio but tones and
local audio and of course allstar audio from external connections.
I am running the DR1X with squelch open and the node is ignoring ctcss and
carrier detect. Can the allstar control get either of these signals from the
DR1X when allstar is the controller?
At the moment I've got quite a squelch tail!
I realize that I could go to the DR1X control mode or add some sort of other
external controller but I really wanted to have allstar be the only
controller in the mix.
Any help would be appreciated.
