Neil,
I am not exactly following what you are doing. I presume you have these two nodes connected together. If there is a problem it would not be a specific RPi2 problem but rather a problem in the Allstar code.
The duplex setting in simpleusb..conf should always be set to 1.
Usually you send the remote command as an entire string WITH the trailing #. It is probably best to use a script to do this. DTMF sequences could be mapped to a remote command. In that way the actual command is never actually transmitted over the air.
If you need an example of a script I can send it to you personally. Remote commands are not to be taken lightly and should not be something you instruct or allow users to perform casually. Only trusted users who know how to use the command and send the proper terminator should be using it.

Subject: [arm-allstar] remote command mode hangup issue
I just ran into a new issue with a RPI in remote control mode. first some
facts
Primary node is in duplex=2
simpleusb channel driver is set to duplex=1
Second node is a half duplex link so
duplex=1
simpleusb channel driver duplex=0
when the second node is placed in remote command mode the primary node
which is full duplex stays keyed up regardless of if the secondary node HALF
DUPLEX is keyed up or not.
If someone forgets to take the secondary node out of remote control mode by
sending a # dtmf digit
the main node times out
if somebody keys the main repeater, it keys up again , times out and the
cycle goes on.
I would prefer that
1. the main node unkeys when it does not have any more to transmit
2 when and if the main node timesout that the remote command mode is
terminated
Any thoughts?
Thanks
