Since there has been much speculation about future development I want to bring you up to date on what we are doing.
The next update of the BBB code is expected sometime in April. This will include the latest svn updates, kernel updates, and other goodies we have added like Allmon2. It also looks like the GPIO code is back in the latest kernel so that may be included also.
I believe the BBB still has many years of life left given that some of you are still using PC's from the 1980's! But nothing stands still in the computer market and there are some exciting new boards out there that we are currently looking at. The Raspberry Pi 2 is certainly a contender and we have it running the current BBB code and in testing now. So far it looks very good. It is not the best choice from a technical standpoint but when you make a decision about a product you have to consider other factors like availability and longterm support.
Assuming the RPi2 is the choice it would be supported with essentially the same OS and code as the BBB making our job easier. There would obviously be some differences so the images would not be compatible. Most of the current setup, howto's, etc. would remain much the same. Installation and setup would look the same across the platforms.
We will report progress as we go along. Testing is a very important part of the process and the quality of the product is very important to us.
I want to emphasize that the BBB will continue to be supported. I don't think you could ask for a better single node Allstar computer.
